October 6, 2026

A night at New York's famous opera house may be closer than you think! The “Opera for All” initiative gives New York City residents the chance to win free tickets to Metropolitan Opera performances during the 2026–27 season.

New York City and the Metropolitan Opera announced 70,000 free tickets this season, with 10,000 tickets released each month through a lottery. Featured productions include Macbeth, La Bohème, and Lincoln in the Bardo. Tickets are available in several sections of the opera house, excluding standing room.

When is the lottery?

Tickets are offered through a monthly lottery on the Met Opera app. No fixed entry date has been announced, so residents should check the app and the initiative's webpage for available performances and lottery details.

Who can enter?

  • Applicants must live in New York City.
  • Must have valid identification.
  • Must not have purchased a Metropolitan Opera ticket since 2019.
  • The Met Opera app is required; it is used to verify residency and ticket-purchase history.

🎟️ Enter the lottery

For details and to enter, visit on.nyc.gov/opera or download the Met Opera app.

This could be your chance to discover opera and enjoy a special night out in New York. Check the app—you might be selected!
