New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani welcomed mayors and city leaders from across the United States and the world to the 2026 Urban 20 Mayors Summit, held at Civic Hall in Manhattan on Saturday, September 19.

The summit focused on developing practical solutions to the most pressing challenges facing major cities, chiefly rising housing costs, the climate crisis and migration, while giving officials the opportunity to exchange expertise and policies that have proven successful in their communities.

More than 30 mayors and officials from global cities participated, affirming that local governments play an essential role in addressing crises that directly affect residents’ lives. Participants discussed expanding affordable housing, supporting a just transition to clean energy, and managing migration in a way that preserves migrants’ dignity and supports their integration into local communities.
