Mayor Mamdani Visits Affordable Housing Site With European Mayors
New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani visited an affordable housing site at 76 Christopher Avenue in Brooklyn on Friday, September 18, 2026, accompanied by several European mayors.
The visit included Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema, Greater Manchester Mayor Bev Craig, and Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire. The delegation toured the development and met with residents while exchanging ideas about policies that could help major cities address rising housing costs.
The visit highlighted the importance of providing safe, suitable and affordable homes at a time when cities around the world are experiencing rising rents, increasing property prices and shortages of available housing.
City leaders also discussed their experiences with expanding the housing supply, regulating rents, protecting tenants and developing sustainable residential communities. The visit was part of broader discussions between New York City officials and European city leaders about housing, climate action and improving urban life. (lemonde.fr)
The tour demonstrated that the housing crisis is not only a local challenge but a shared international concern requiring cooperation among cities and the exchange of successful solutions that promote stability and security for families.
